For whiskey clubs

A space for reflection, not perfection

Whisky clubs play a central role in shaping whisky culture. It is often where interest is sparked, knowledge is shared and community is built. Let's Open Up Over Whisky wants to support clubs that want to reflect on how welcoming their environments are, and how they can become even more open over time.

Membership in Let's Open Up Over Whisky is not about being "done" or living up to external demands. It's about seeing inclusion as an ongoing process, and understanding the conversation as a necessary starting point.

What we expect from whiskey clubs

Whisky clubs applying for membership are expected to:

  • have statutes, guidelines or common principles that express an inclusive stance towards current and future members
  • Conduct internal discussions about how the club can broaden participation, for example in relation to gender, age, background or experience

We do not require any additional documentation beyond what is already available within the club, and we do not follow up or evaluate the clubs' activities.

What membership offers whiskey clubs

By becoming a member, a whisky club gives you the opportunity to:

  • support broader work to strengthen the whisky community as a whole
  • demonstrate a willingness to approach issues of inclusion in a thoughtful and respectful manner
  • use the Let's Open Up Over Whisky logo on their own website, as a sign of support for the initiative

Membership should primarily be understood as support for a non-profit cause – comparable to contributing to other non-profit initiatives – rather than as a service or certification.

Whiskey club membership fees

The membership fee is based on the number of members in the club:

  • 1–9 members: 300 SEK
  • 10–49 members: SEK 550
  • 50–99 members: 850 SEK
  • 100+ members: 1,000 SEK

The fee is paid annually and is used to finance the organization's operations, administration and long-term work.

Representation and engagement

Each whisky club appoints a representative, who should sit on the club's board. This ensures that the representative has good insight into the club's operations and can contribute meaningfully to dialogue and conversation. Representatives can be nominated for a seat on the Let's Open Up Over Whisky board at a future board meeting, after nomination and majority decision.

Why this is important

Many whisky clubs operate with limited resources, but at the same time have a significant impact on the tone and culture of their contexts. A more inclusive whisky environment benefits not only individuals, but also the clubs themselves by broadening interest, strengthening engagement and helping to ensure whisky culture remains relevant for future generations.

Let's Open Up Over Whiskey exists to support that work, not to judge it.
