Scholarships and nominations

Every year, we celebrate Let's Open Up Over Whiskey people who contribute in various ways to a more inclusive whisky culture. Through our scholarship, we want to highlight individuals who, with commitment, reflection and action, make a difference in their contexts.
This could be within the whisky industry, in whisky clubs or in other whisky-related environments. The scholarship is a way to highlight work that often happens quietly, but which has great significance for how welcoming and sustainable the whisky community becomes over time.
Who can be nominated?
The scholarship is individual-based. This means that it is individuals – not clubs, companies or organizations – who may be considered for the scholarship.
The nominee could, for example, be someone who:
- actively working for increased inclusion within the whisky industry
- contributes to a more welcoming climate in a whisky club
- creates safe and open conversation environments around whisky
- in other ways, it helps more people feel at home in the whisky context
Commitment can take many forms and does not have to be large or visible to the outside world. What is important is the intention, the actions and the impact the person has in their context.
About nominations
About nominations
Nominations are welcome and encouraged. They serve as an important basis for the work of the board, but are indicative rather than binding. This means that the board is not limited to the nominations submitted, but makes an overall assessment based on the organization's purpose and values. The board always has the final responsibility and mandate to appoint fellows.
Nominate someone
If you know someone who you think deserves to be recognized for their work on inclusion in the whisky world, we encourage you to submit a nomination. It could be a colleague, a club member, a friend, or perhaps someone whose work you have seen and appreciated yourself. Nominating is a way of saying: What you do matters..
Information about how nominations are made, as well as current timeframes, can be found below.

Here's how it works
Step 1
Start by gathering information about the person you want to nominate. Think about their achievements, commitment, and how they contribute to our community.
Step 2
Fill out the form on our website with the information collected. Be sure to provide clear examples of why this person deserves the nomination.
Step 3
Once you submit your nomination, we will review it. This may take some time, so please be patient with the process.
Step 4
Finally, we will notify you of the outcome of the nomination via email. Regardless of the outcome, we truly appreciate your involvement!
To highlight good examples
Through the scholarship, Let's Open Up Over Whiskey contribute to more good examples being made visible and shared. We believe that stories of commitment, care and responsibility can inspire others and strengthen the work for a more inclusive whisky community.
